Food with over 80% increase
The comparison of the first quarter of 2020 and 2021 speaks for itself: while in 2020 around 361 million euros were earned online in the food category, this year it was 666 million euros. In concrete terms, this corresponds to an increase of 84.5%. This greatly changed shopping behavior for everyday goods has been evident since the beginning of the corona pandemic.
According to the study, growth in online sales was also recorded in other areas, including office supplies, drugstore goods and medicines. In contrast, a decline can still be seen in digital services.
What is the BEVH?
This is an e-commerce association, more specifically an industry association of interactive retailers (i.e. online and mail order retailers). Its tasks include, on the one hand, representing the industry interests of all members, for example vis-à-vis the legislature or political or economic institutions. On the other hand, the association acts as a broker of information on developments and trends, promotes the exchange of experience and serves as a professional advice center.
