1974–1999

Since 1974

The third generation.

In 1980, a new chapter is opened in the family history: Martin Ehlert, the first-born son of Karl-Gustav Ehlert, returns to join the family business after successfully completing his law studies in Marburg. Martin deliberately decides not to start his career in the company in a managerial position, but as an ordinary employee.

This choice shows his dedication and appreciation of the family tradition and the employees. He wants to get to know the company from the ground up, gain experience and thus get an authentic picture of the daily business and the challenges of the industry. His arrival marks the beginning of the third generation in the management of the company...

Without limits.

In 1989, Germany was reunited and business grew steadily in the following year, as demand for goods from the West was extremely high.

Our warehouse and office space in Wagenfeldtstraße is bursting at the seams and we are planning a new building to expand. We are adapting to the latest technological standards, planning the introduction of truck ramps and investing a whole 7 million Deutschmarks in the future...

Getting ready for the future

With more customers come new challenges. The planning begins.

Since 1996

Leap into the future.

The mid-90s: At a time when technological innovations were beginning to revolutionize the world of work, Martin Ehlert came up with a visionary idea. He recognizes the enormous potential of digitalization and especially the introduction of computers early on. With this foresight, he decides to redesign the traditional working environment of our company and introduces PC workstations.

In doing so, he also uses the positive experience of digital history, as the company had already introduced electric typewriters and calculators as well as forklift trucks for more efficient processes in the early 1960s. This decision is not only a step towards modernization, but also a bold leap into the future of business processing: by introducing computers at every workstation, Martin Ehlert enables more efficient, faster and error-free processing of data and processes. It marks the beginning of a new era in which IT-supported systems become the basis of our daily work...

Change in processes - in the past vs. today

The core business has hardly changed over the decades. However, megatrends and global events have also had an enormous impact on regional companies, meaning that internal processes in particular have had to adapt even more in order to continue operating successfully! Daniela Liepelt gives us an insight into these developments and explains how she has perceived the upheaval since she joined the company in 1991.

1997

Everything is new.

In February 1997 there is festive news: The long-planned new building in Lupinenweg can finally be opened! This milestone is the result of careful planning and visionary objectives to make the company spatially and structurally fit for the future and to adapt to the constantly growing challenges and successes.

Just a few days after the opening, the new premises are already hosting the last Ehlert in-house exhibition for the time being. This event, firmly anchored in the corporate culture, not only marks the successful end of an era, but also the beginning of a new chapter at the new location...
